Foreword – Head On

To say the last three years—2020-2023—have been life-changing for Victoria’s nurses, midwives and personal care workers is an understatement.

Along with the rest of the state, they experienced fear, isolation and personal hardship. Yet they stood up and responded to a health crisis of unknown, and ultimately unprecedented, scale.

Some have agreed to share their stories on this website and in the companion book Head On: How Victorian nurses and midwives confronted COVID.

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Victorian Branch) thanks every member who shared their story and all members and their colleagues in every clinical area across the state for caring for the Victorian community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
